The Setting
In
addition to providing an authentic farmhouse for travelers
to enjoy, Hazel Fort Farms is a fully functional farm, with
cows, sheep and horses.
During your stay at Hazel Fort, you are free to explore
the property. A peaceful river that borders the farm is a
perfect place to walk and enjoy the lush beauty of Ireland.
There are also a variety of animals that you will be able
to see while you are on the farm. A family of goats, a pot
bellied pig, a flock of white geese and a Kerry cow are all
part of the farm experience. Several friendly Border Collies
that George Kelly has bred live on the farm and adore all
of their human visitors.
There are also many activities available on and around the
farm. Pony rides and fishing are popular activities for quiet
days on the farm. Ballymalis Castle, an historic landmark,
is just a short quiet walk from the farm. Once there, you
may wish to explore the scenic banks of the river Luane.
A moment to wander,
To watch the subtle change
That draws all eyes to the dancing light
That fills the sky
As the sun slips behind the mountains
The sun gleams,
And paints the earth like pages of a story,
Loved and touched
By time
So that they are the color of honey
The ancient canopy of the oak tree,
And the small white and brown bodies,
Dotting the shade beneath,
Are lit with the last rays of the sun
As they sleep
Before it is gone
The sun leaves its mark
And warms the night,
So that something of the day is left
When the cold moon shines
